Before bringing it down, that wet THWACK being heard again. Closer still, the sound of something dripping to the ground can be heard. Each drip sounds louder and louder still as whatever is causing it begins to pool on the floor.
If they make it to just outside the door? A hideous, echoing laugh will bellow out from behind the door, easily loud enough to be heard in every corner of the house.
